nissan teana

Nissan is reconsidering luxury cars import strategy. This is crucial or else little can help the X-trail, and Teana to perform well in India in terms of sales volumes. The company is busy preparing for its compact car launch that’s scheduled for within 5 months. Despite future growth potential, the already launched cars aren’t doing too well. The reason being that importing CBU’s proves to be expensive as compared to completely knocked down kits (CKDs). This would result in cost reduction of their luxuray vehicles. At present, their premium segment vehicles are priced rather high resultant of heavy import tax.
They’re also considering retail and wholesale financing for sales improvement. A lot is yet under consideration as far as obtaining a non-banking financing license from RBI is concerned. Not too many details have yet been leaked regarding the small car launch. Their expansion plans include an additional 55 dealerships of which some would have multiple outlets within the next 2 years.
It seems their JV with Ashok Leyland has made progress too. Intially, both companies will carry out LCV production under individual brand names, and products will not be identical. Joint production will be looked into after the initial phase. Based on future Indian auto market conditions, they could consider LCV exports too. Nissan believes competition from Japanese and European manufacturers will be intense.

The replacement Nissan Teana is due very soon and more details are starting to appear. Some of these merely confirm earlier speculation (read previous article on 2009 Nissan Teana here.), but there are some interesting details that give us a clear indication that Nissan is attempting to raise the bar in the segment.

When Nissan introduced the Teana, it was a major departure from the styling of the car it replaced, the Cefiro. But more than simply redefine the face of the Japanese automakers flagship sedan, it also marked the start of a brand-wide style change.
The Teana was like a breath of fresh air in a segment that had stagnated and seemed to only have room for the most boring of designs. While the Honda and Toyota continued to play it safe with the Accord and Camry respectively, Nissan threw caution to the wind with the Teana.
Nissan were arguably even more daring when it came to the interior, and some five years on, and it still feels stylish and fresh next to more conservative rivals. So why is the Teana being updated so soon? Wouldn't a minor update be enough to keep things going for a few more years?
Actually, this should be true, but the Nissan Teana hasn't been as successful as Nissan might have expected. Nissan are currently offering 0 percent financing on the Teana in efforts to boost sales, presumably to clear stocks in time to launch the new model.

So what's new?

When Nissan showed us the Intima Concept at the Bangkok Motor Show last year, we were given an early glimpse of the form of the New Teana. And although Nissan toned things down a little, the basic lines remain on the production model.
Nissan Intima Concept Image
The 2010 Teana actually has a lot in common with the outgoing model, but when compared side by side, the differences are obvious. New headlamps are much bigger and travel further back the car, although they are not as fantastic as those on the Intima concept. The rear of the car also features new tail light clusters, and although they are also distinctly different, the dynamic of the old car is retained.

The Nissan might not be to everyone's taste, but if you are bored with bland designs offered up by Toyota, Honda and Hyundai, then the Teana definitely offers something different. At least nobody can claim that they are copying anyone.

More luxury than you can shake a stick at

It is the interior where the biggest changes are to be seen though. Nothing looks familiar in here, and again this is praise. Nissan might be playing it a little safer this time around though, and the interior layout is a little more conventional than the outgoing model.

The center console buttons under the display are on a shelf, which is something that Nissan have been doing for years in other models. It actually works really well, and it makes sense to push down on buttons.
I'm reminded a little of Volvo when I look at these pictures, and it looks like Nissan have done a very good job in choosing materials.

One of the most interesting details to emerge however is that the luxury trim level will include a Bose 5.1 audio system. This should provide class-leading accoustics and with the smooth 2.5 litre V6 engine audiophiles shouldn't be bothered by engine noise.

CVT

While the Teana always had plenty of style to compete with competitors, it didn't really have anything substantial on paper to make it stand out. The 2010 Teana will have a few stand-out features
One is the continuously variable transmission (CVT), that should provide silky smooth power delivery when mated to the 2.5 V6, or the 2.0 four-pot. Honda and Toyota are using conventional five-speed torque converter automatic boxes.
With CVT, the gear ratio can be changed gradually, giving virtually unlimited variations in gearing. This has obvious advantages, as it allows the engine to remain in its most efficient power band more of the time, and improves efficiency when compared to a standard auto box.
Nissan is already using a CVT in the 3.5 litre Murano.
Online reports suggest that 0-100 km/h can be reached in about 8 or 9 seconds for the V6 Teana, so performance seems to be ample for this kind of car.

Piston

A piston is a component of reciprocating engines, pumps and gas compressors. It is located in acylinder and is made gas-tight by piston rings. In an engine, its purpose is to transfer force from expanding gas in the cylinder to the crankshaft via a piston rod and/or connecting rod. In a pump, the function is reversed and force is transferred from the crankshaft to the piston for the purpose of compressing or ejecting the fluid in the cylinder. In some engines, the piston also acts as a valveby covering and uncovering ports in the cylinder wall.
March 18,2002---This all started when I planned to rebuild an '89 350 I pulled from my delapidated Suburban. The plan was to simply refresh the engine using aluminum heads, performance cam and new intake. I did not plan to touch the bottom end. Well when I figure the amount of HP/TQ this freshened 350 would produce and I started looking at other alternatives. I found one for sale in the Sunday newspaper. Everything seemed to fall into place with this engine. I was off the day I called, the engine wasn't far from where I lived, the guy wanted to get rid of it fast and he'd deliver the engine to my driveway. What more could I ask? Below is the donor 454 V8 I plan to rebuild with some serious Hi-po parts. It looks a little rusty because its been out in the elements for a few months. Most of the computer and pollution equipment is still attached to the engine. The owner had planned to sell it to someone who could merely transplant the engine into another vehicle and fire her up. I have a few other plans though. Much to my surprise the block turned out to have 4 bolt mains. The stock 454 put out about 230HP and 385 ftlb of torque. I know I can add a couple horses here and there.

New Nissan GT-R

nissan-gt-r.jpg
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd, today announced the launch of the new model – GT-R. it is peoclaimed as “an ultimate supercar enjoyable to anyone, anywhere, at anytime”. The car will be available mainly through Nissan High Performance Centers.
New GT-R embodies the new understanding and appreciation of natural forces of gravity, inertia and aerodynamics. The car transforms these forces into an absolutely new design, maximal tire grip and airflow.
To increase the interaction between a driver and a vehicle a Human-Machine Interface (HMI) never seen before in the marketplace was designed and became an integral property of a new model. The main principles of a new GT-R are speed and efficiency, high-output with environmental mindfulness and high performance and safety.
nissan-back.jpg
So Nissan has designed a completely new model offering advanced high performance for secure and enjoyable driving free of climatic, road condition or driving technique limitations. The car suits to drive on snow, rain or urban areas owing to its advanced technology and driving dynamics.
The perfect characteristics of a new car were reached also through specialized production process. The components are assembled with a special high-precision process, which includes a series of vibration tests. Engines and transmissions are assembled in a “clean room” environment and after its completion every car of the present series undergoes several comprehensive tests to ensure the proper operation of all vehicle components.
The owners of a new GT-R will be offered total support for the first three years of ownership including measurement and adjustment of the engine, transmission and wheel alignment after the first 1000 km.

The latest Skyline GT-R prototype, pictured above, differs from ones seen previously. This one has a pair of small air vents in the hood and four large exhaust outlets in the rear. Past prototypes had no vents and just two tailpipes. The car in the photo obviously uses Infiniti G35 coupe sheetmetal, substantially modified to fit huge tires and a large front air dam. The real GT-R will look a lot like the Nissan GT-R Proto concept that debuted at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show.
nissan-gtr-b
Nissan considered a V-8 for the next GT-R but has opted instead for a specially developed twin-turbo V-6, due to its lower weight and explosive power potential. A limited-edition 2005-model GT-R Z-tune, fitted with the now superseded twin-turbo straight-six, generated over 500 horsepower, showing the potential of this car. Britain’s Cosworth is helping Nissan extract more than 450 horsepower from the upcoming 3.7- or 3.8-liter V-6 while still meeting emissions laws.

2008 Nissan GT-R
It’s the most exciting car Japan has ever produced. Sorry Supra, too bad NSX, but there’s nothing quite like the Skyline GT-R. A technological tour de force, the GT-R has always been the dream car of the PlayStation generation. Since 1989, modern GT-Rs have always featured a twin turbocharged engine and electronically controlled all-wheel drive and steering. The last generation Skyline GT-R, the R34, was the first production car ever to feature an onboard computer that gave real-time dynamic readouts on a full color screen. Not to mention that it was fast and nimble enough to run head-to-head with a Porsche 911 GT3.
nissan-gtr-d
But it also has more, much more, than just an enviable reputation — it has a cult following. Like all the best sports cars (think Porsche 911, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Ford GT40), the Skyline earned its accolades in motorsport, where budgets were blown and technology distilled to make this car a world-beater.
nissan-gtr-e
In one sense, it’s esoteric — its price and position atop the Japanese fast car food chain put it just beyond the reach, but not out of the dreams, of the average salaryman. What cemented the car’s standing was that it became fairly affordable as the years went by. After the hype died down, anyone willing to take the chance on a used Japanese import could have bagged an R33, or even an R34, for reasonable money. And the fact that the 2.6-liter straight-six engine is so damned unburstable — inspiring a few crazed owners to tweak its power output up to over 1,000 horsepower — hasn’t hurt, either. In fact, much of the Godzilla reputation has been built on the street, not the track. It seems the GT-R has always been built for tuning.
nissan-gtr-f
Sad, then, that few American drivers have had the pleasure of spinning its twin turbos, experiencing the all-wheel-drive traction, and dancing with its four-wheel steering system. Because the plumbing of the turbos made conversion to lefthand drive impractical, the Skyline was never available in the U.S. To own one in America has taken dedication, foolhardiness, and money, in correspondingly generous portions. Up until now. Well, 2008, more like. That’s when the new GT-R will be coming to a Nissan dealership near you.
nissan-gtr-g
As you read this, the next generation GT-R is already attacking the North Loop of Germany’s famed Nrburgring as part of its extensive testing regimen. We’ve shown the photos in past issues — tweaked Skyline/G35 coupes with weird vents and hood bulges. Why the Nordschleife? Well, partly for the PR buzz it generates, but more importantly because the R34 GT-R clocked a time of 7.52 seconds, for many years the unofficial record for a production car, and a time the new model must obliterate.
nissan-gtr-h
Just how it will do that is largely a mystery. There is an unprecendented level of secrecy surrounding this new model. And it’s not just to get us all excited. Nissan knows it must be right from the word go. At the peak of his cost reduction campaign in 2001, CEO Carlos Ghosn reinvigorated Nissan and the industry by announcing a new GT-R would be coming and that this time, it would be available to the world.
